National Fisherwomen’s Conclave | 10–12 July 2026 | Don Bosco Youth Animation Centre, Ennore, Chennai

The National Fisherwomen’s Conclave brought together 46 women from  Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and Puducherry to discuss their rights, livelihoods and challenges.

The three-day conclave provided a platform for participants to share their lived experiences, identify common challenges, discuss government schemes, and develop collective strategies for social and economic empowerment.

Key priorities included recognition of fisherwomen, land and livelihood rights, financial support, healthcare, education, social inclusion, and livelihood diversification. Participants also developed plans to strengthen village and district-level networks and build a federation of fisherwomen.

As part of the conclave, the “National Fisher Women’s Conclave – Karuthu Sadhanam” was also released, documenting key concerns, demands and perspectives emerging from the collective process.

The conclave concluded with plans for continued collective action and future initiatives to strengthen the voices and rights of fisherwomen across coastal communities.
