The provision of safe drinking water, sanitation and handwashing facilities is an essential component of a healthy physical learning environment. If school children have access to appropriately designed clean toilets, functioning handwashing facilities with soap, sufficient and safe drinking water and have developed adequate hygiene skills, they are more likely to stay in school and perform better as well as influence a generational change in hygiene practices.
