A two day training to strengthen local government using the legal frameworks of the Constitution of India was organized at Nagapattinam on the 18th & 19th of June 2019 by Human Rights Advocacy and Research Foundation and co-organized by LAW Trust. The programme was attended by 46 participants (32 women, 10 men) from the districts of Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Thiruvarur, Trichy, Tanjore and Perambalur.
The workshop was for potential trainers about the workings of the Panchayat and the role they could play in it. The programme detailed the importance of women representation in the panchayat to deal with the issues faced by them in a better way. The conducting panchayat elections in a fair manner was discussed. The participants were also told about the Sustainable Development Goals given by the UN and how it can be used to formulate a better GPDP for each panchayat.
