Public Hearing on KU Thermal Power Plant on 25th July 2014 at Tuticorin

M/s. K.U. Thermal Power Private Limited., proposed to 1320 MW (2×660 MW) Coal Based Thermal Power Plant at the Public Hearing held at Office of the District Collector, Sangukoodam, Korampallam, Thoothukudi District on 25th July 2014 as per the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

As per requirement a Public Hearing was called by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and chaired by the Collector of Tuticorin District regarding proposed 1320 MW (2×660 MW) Coal Based Thermal Power Plant by M/s. K.U. Thermal Power Private Limited.,  at Ottapidaram & Sillanatham Village, Ottapidaram Taluk, Thoothukudi District. Hundreds of people especially women from fishing villages and agricultural villages including several agricultural workers came for the Public Hearing on 25th July 2014. HRF was involved in providing documentation and research support to the memorandum submitted in the Public Hearing.

K.A.Matthews, Samikannu, State Committee Members, CAN, Vijayashankar, Advocate, Sakthi Vadivel, Associate Coordinator participated in the public hearing and registered their concerns regarding pollution and ecological disaster that could happen because of this project. They also filed a written submission to the Pollution control Board during the Public Hearing elaborating the negative impacts of the proposed thermal power plant with scientific proofs and evidence. Their submissions were recorded.
