SDG Status Report on SECs in Tamil Nadu

Human Rights Advocacy and Research Foundation (HRF), together with research partners (community organisations), conducted a study on the SDG status of ten SECs in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The household survey was conducted among 1000 households fro 10 SECs in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry 2019. Primary data was collected from about 100 households each from Irular (indigenous people), persons with disabilities, religious minorities (Muslims), manual scavengers, domestic workers, sexual minorities, urban poor, refugees, women in textile work, children, and fishers. Based on this survey, report cards on the SDG status of each of the 10 SECs were prepared and released on 22 November 2019.

What makes this study distinct from other surveys done in relation to SDGs is that the survey and focused group discussions (FGD) were conducted by grassroot level organisations from the respective communities, or have worked with these SECs for a long time. The sample size for the survey in each SEC was 100 households. This was followed up with FGDs to explore areas that needed priorty attention, outside the survey questionnaire.
